The golf team struggled in their final tune-up before the OVC Championships that start Monday. At the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State University, Eastern finished 11 out of 15 teams. Though the conditions were poor, the Colonels never put the blame on the weather. I was kind of disappointed, we didnt play well at all, Head Coach Pat Stevens said. The conditions were tough but they played poorly. The Colonels shot a final round score of 395 and finished the tournament with the score 1, They were four shots out of capturing their second consecutive top 10 finish and were 53 shots behind the leader. Freshman Garrett Hinton shot the best final round for the Colonels, a six-over Sophomore Johan Eriksson had the best performance for the Colonels shooting a score of 227 good enough for 26th place. Juniors Brian Fister and Billy Peel Jr. finished just behind Eriksson in 36th lost and delirious soundtrack beautiful 38th place respectively. The biggest thing we are going to take out of it is staying in the round the whole time, Peel Jr. I think a lot of us got out of our round, got frustrated with the wind and it kind of hurt us. I think if we can do that we can beat any team in the conference. The Colonels will spend this upcoming weekend studying the golf course and practicing shots they will need for the OVC Championship starting next week. We will probably be talking about the golf course and when we go out to practice we will be practicing the types of shots we will probably see, Stevens said. Obviously we will work on our short game and prepare mentally. Even with the poor finish, Peel Jr. and the rest of the Colonels are confident heading into OVC play at Austin Peay. My expectations are high, I think we can win the conference, Peel Jr. I dont think there are any reasons why we cant go out there and win it.
