Xxix

some sort of voodoo jinxed paradigm i guess. he stuck with pedroia and has him playing much better at the major league level than at anywhere else, not including little league. he accepted a relatively long term contract for less than he probably would have made on the open market, years later. ditto with lester and youk. none of these 3 would have signed in advance if it wasn t for enjoying to play for the sox and my guess that strongly includes tito as coach. patience seems to work very well in baseball, both with the clowns and the rooks. buch would have been xxix to the wolves prior to this season. back in april i would have cut vmart and beltre. nancy would never have been playing rf. well that s another day. use of the pen may be due to the pitching coach name escapes me. who knows. personally, i would blame theo, before tito. 170 trillion budget. but, why blame it was a terrible season physically, yet with one of the hardest schedules in mlb, we are in a position to make our best regular season comeback, possibly of all time!! we can catch the yankers. 6 games left, 6 out, magic number is it has been done to us see the 70 s not including the phills had some type of bizarre collapse a while back, etc. did we quit when the Japanese navy bombed Gettysburg? keep the faith may be very interesting come the first weekend in october. Now, if Petey, Lester, and Youk hated Boston, sure, they d probably not go for it. But that only requires you to avoid a terrible asshole of a manager, and in that situation, you can have your cake and eat it too. Almost every young player will want an extension because, before they lock up that 10 million dollar deal, you re not in that set for life territory. It is, yes, all about the money. The rest of what you credit Francona with falls under the jurisdiction of the man you try to place blame on: Theo. He s the guy who held on to Lester and Buchholz through thick and thing. Sure, Tito might handle the everyday lineups, but if he s not playing his guys then you better believe word will come down from on-high. If Tito is anything, he is drastically overrated. He s a 90-win coach because he s on a big-market team with great players. People hate Grady Little, but credit Francona as a fantastic manager for NOT making a mind-numbingly awful mistake in the last innings, and winning the World Series with the same team plus Curt Schilling! Sorry, but I m just not that impressed. A manager s ability to truly effect the team comes from in-game decisions regarding the xxix and lineup, and his ability to avoid having major player meltdowns. Well, Manny did ultimately meltdown, but credit Francona for defusing as many situations as he likely did. But now he s gone, and Francona s bullpen decisions have been far-from-perfect for years.
